What is Imageering?
Electronic and Print Media for a Bed & Breakfast

A couple retiring from military service had inherited an ante-bellum home in Franklin, La., a small town on US 90 between Morgan City and Lafayette.  Unfortunately, the couple already had a home in the area. After renting the house for several years, they decided to make the home into a bed & breakfast; however, with two motels in the local area it was unlikely for enough people to just happen to be in the area and want to stay at a B&B to make the business profitable. The client needed to establish a desired image and use it to develop brochures for distribution at tourism centers, advertisements designed for various publications, and a website to bring in guests.

Approach:  The client wished to proceed as soon as possible. After meeting with the client regarding what sort of image they wished to project, Kemper Imageering conducted a full photo shoot of the exterior and the completed rooms.  However, it was winter and not the most opportune time to take marketing photos of the exterior. KDG used imaging to change the exterior image from a cold winter look to a warmer, greener springtime image.  Minor imperfections in the building's exterior slated for work were removed.  The lamp post's access hatch at its base was "closed."  A frame was added to the photo as a graphic design element for the brochure. The same technique was used for the interior shot used in the brochure and website. Color proofs were printed in-house for the client to review and mark up with changes. When the client was satisfied with the design, another set of proofs was included along with the electronic files to ensure the color separations matched the client's specifications as part of the pre-press process. Finally, a website was developed to match the "look and feel" of the brochure. KDG was able to use the same images from the brochure to develop their website, saving time and money while creating a tighter marketing image. KDG then registered the website with a variety of search engines and indexes. Local sites and various tourism agencies exchanged links with their website. As their B&B received reviews and they were profiled in on-line publications, their site was modified to take advantage of these developments.

Solution:  The B&B has become a successful business. They receive bookings through tourism offices, travel agencies, and direct inquiries. Their website has generated many direct bookings from overseas guests who discovered the website through KDG's maintaining and increasing the site's visibility on various search engines.

Multimedia and Marketing Material for a Band

A client already had a logo, some photography, a released CD, and an established image. They needed a website to further establish their image while informing fans of their play dates, provide samples of their music, and convey information to promoters and venues. They later needed live footage of their performances and new band photos.

Approach:  The client already had substantial graphic work completed and provided it in electronic format. The graphics was used as a basis for their website's background and navigation tools as well as establishing the site's overall look and feel. Audio editing was used to convert the CD tracks into 25 to 30 second AIFF clips. AIFF formats are universally recognized by most versions of Netscape and Explorer and require no special plug-ins. The tracks were downsampled to reduce the file sizes and download time. The web page was constructed so the tracks only downloaded on command, ensuring the site viewers did not have to wait for material they did not want. A calendar page listed all of their gigs to date for the year as they were booked, giving fans the latest play dates and showing promoters the band's track record. Footage from gigs supplements the calendar page. Background information and items for sale are featured on other web pages. As the band changed members, a new group photo was needed. A photo shoot was set up in which each member was photographed individually. The images were later composed into several group shots such as the one featured here or the one on their website. The advantage to using this method is greater flexibility than shooting an actual group shot, allowing multiple compositions as well as making sure each person's photo is the best one from the set. With a group shot it is unlikely each person will look their best for the same shot.

In addition to revising their website and providing a new promo shot, one of the group shots was used to produce posters and printed promotional "slicks", shown here.
Solution:  The client has successfully incorporated their website in their promotions. Advertisements for different events usually incorporate their web address, using the depth of information on the website to reinforce the event information. Fans in different parts of the country can keep track of the band's play dates as well as correspond directly with band members. Fans can also purchase CDs, shirts, and bumper stickers directly from the band. Promoters have contacted the client based solely on the information on the site. The band now has fans in Europe and even Australia who first listened to the clips online, then ordered the CD ROM. The client is now receiving airplay in Germany and is negotiating overseas music release rights.
